Nottingham Children’s Festival

Date: 01-17 Aug 2008.
Location: Victoria Embankment, Nottingham.

The month of August will see parents and children spending a lot of fun time together at Nottingham’s first ever children’s festival. Starting on the 1st of August through the 17th of August 2008, the Riverside Children’s Festival is aimed at children between the age 0-12. The festival will have arts and activities based on the theme of ’Myths and Legends’ from the world over. Children can enjoy a global picnic at Wollaton Park Horrible Histories or plays at the Theatre Royal, fun packed art activities at Lakeside Arts Centre, Children’s cinema at Broadway and participate in the innumerable fun to do things and workshops at libraries, museums and other interesting venues throughout Nottingham. The events start at 9 in the morning and go on till 5 in the evening.

Oddsocks Productions welcomes all to their presentation of the Shakespearean comedy, ‘‘Much Ado About Nothing” in the beautiful grounds of the Nottingham Castle in Nottingham. The play is an amalgamation of love, intrigue and smouldering desires. This family entertainer will be performed on the Elizabethan “Passion Wagon” on the 24th and 25th July 2008 from 6 pm to 10.30 pm. The tickets for adults are priced at £13 and that for children are priced at £9.

The Theatre Royal and Royal Company presents Robin of Sherwood in a brand new stage adaptation. The drama based on the story of Nottingham’s legendary outlaw is laced with generous doses of romance, comedy, drama, and adventure for the entire family. The shows will be held at the Royal Theatre, Theatre Square in Nottingham from 23rd July to 2nd August 2008. The show is scheduled to start at 7 pm up to 10 pm. The tickets for this family entertainer range from £7 to £14.

The theme for this year’s challenge is based on sports to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. This 9 to 5 event is free for all. Those interested arre requested to get the details from the local libraries.

The 19th British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships are to be held at the City of Nottingham Tennis Centre, University Boulevard in Nottingham from 22nd to 27th July 2008. The British Open Championships, one of the four tournaments on the global NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, holds the super series status that is on par with a Grand Slam. The matches will commence at 9 in the morning till 5 in the evening. It is recommended to confirm the timings and ticket rates prior to the event.

Inspired by the portrait paintings and the ’drama and dressing up’ themes of Laura Knight at the Theatre, Nottingham based photographers and fashion designers have created a series of directional fashion images in this Styling Project 1. These will be displayed at an exhibition to be held between the 19th and 28th of July 2008 at the Nottingham Castle, between 10 am to 4 pm. Except for the regular museum admission fees, there are no extra charges.

Laura Knight at the Theatre is an exhibition of the paintings and drawings of the ballet and the stage that showcases the life of Britain’s leading impressionist painter Dame Laura Knight. One can also see some rare exhibits of her work. This event will be held from 19th July to 28th September 2008, between 10 am to 4 pm at the Nottingham Castle, Friar Lane, Off Maid Marian Way in Nottingham. Except for the normal admission fees, there are no extra charges.

Enjoy the timeless classic of Giselle brought alive by the English Youth Ballet. Set on an English country estate, Giselle is a story about a young girl who is betrayed by the much engaged Prince Albert. What follows is a heart rending tale of revenge by the ghosts of a group of jilted young women called Willis, who rise from their graves at night to wreak havoc upon any man who dares to cross their path. Lose yourself in the breath taking scenery, skilful ballet dancing and period costumes while enjoying this appealing and dramatic story. The performances will be held at the Theatre Square, Theatre Royal, Nottingham. With three shows to choose from, theatre lovers can either go for the 7.30 show on Friday 1st August or for the 2.30 pm or the 7.30 pm show on 2nd.

The Aluminum Show

The Inbal Company from Tel Aviv, will perform “The Aluminium Show” a world famous show for the Nottingham audience starting 28th to 30th August 2008. This must see show has been devised and choreographed by IIan Azriel, a former dancer, who has imaginatively and brilliantly worked on the theme of 'aluminum' in all its various industrial forms to create something that is absolutely mindblowing. This superb show combines the awe inspiring talents of graceful dancers, agile acrobats and powerful athletes as they take the audience through many spell binding dance performances, puppetry and special effects. The show is scheduled to start at 19.30 hours through21.45 hours at The Royal Concert Hall, The Royal Centre Theatre Square, Nottingham. The tickets for this family entertainer are priced at £24 to £12.

National Ice Centre & Nottingham Arena

The National Ice Centre is the official home of British Ice Sports and the coolest entertainment and sporting venue in the East Midlands.
